The writer emerges as a poet rather than a novelist he longs to be. For a writer the possibilities are innumerable. One can practice the craft he or she cherishes, be it verse or prose.
That said, we hear the poet saying that he can never be a novelist and that he feels quite satisfied with the gift of writing poetry. I agree. If we know what we want to be, we better pursue the goal we set for ourselves.
However, the last stanza voices a great desire for the novel to come out, which the poet sensibly desires to write in verse. Poetry is great in its own way. Few can excel in it. So it is truly a gift of God.

Imagery-
Imagery mirrors the inner friction between the desire to write prose and the inspiration is to write poetry. It is well brought out in apt word choices and images.

It flows well.
