Although the readers never found out what he did that hurt her so much, it was clear that only a significant breach of trust could have caused this level of pain and it was hard for her to forgive him. You hinted at the beginning that this might be at least in part based on a true story, and I think most readers will be able to relate to the feelings you described here even if they haven't been in this exact situation. You described the emotions very well and although the story was moving, it didn't turn melodramatic as through it all, there was a hint of realism. She understood her feelings quite well and the effect her actions had on him, and he seemed genuinely remorseful. But despite the trouble they were facing, they didn't forget that they were still in love, and that was what gave me hope for this couple.

The way you showed the difference between forgiving and forgetting was well done and in the end, she hoped that the latter would eventually follow the former. However, she was aware that it wasn't as easy as that and it seemed that she could forgive once he saw his regret, she had to make a conscious decision to try and forget. I thought that was very realistic and her thought process there was quite clear.

I liked the little details you used to set the scene and describe what was going on. The way they saw the pain in each other's eyes, a few brief facts about their background, the meaning of him brushing his lips against hers - it all helped the readers to get a more complete picture of the two of them and understand how they were feeling. It wasn't an easy story to read because the pain they were both experiencing seemed very real, but it was well written which made it an enjoyable read despite the subject.
