Engaging and thought-provoking.
A mom's dilemma and a dad's ego in getting the custody of a child are well reflected in dialog, setting and characterization.
She had no alternative to sacrifice her right to get the custody of her son. She preferred to let him have a good life. Thankfully, the father is not too much of a cold man.
It is the son who had undergone the conflict. A drunkard father, his changing live-in girl friends and his neglect in bringing up young Sam, stir sympathy for him in the reader. His longing to be with his mother is clearly expressed, yet he knows the obstacles.
It is only with luck and sound legal counseling that the mother gets her son back.

All in all, a mother's love is the main focus. The story progresses more through dialog than action which is unique.

Well narrated story.
