I am reviewing your article/blog, "Welcome Back Jekyll, Goodbye Hyde in the hope that my words might be helpful, encouraging, or just friendly.

Comments:

Sobriety: I have known only one alcoholic, a brother-in-law who was married to my wife's sister. I knew him before he began drinking, and then while he was an alcoholic, and then after many years of hard work he returned to sobriety and has remained that way.

He was a great guy before he began drinking, and he and I spent many days doing things together. Once he began drinking heavily he became obnoxious, defiant, surly, and angry. I always thought his anger was brought on because he wanted to stop drinking but couldn't.

But I never gave up hope that he would someday return to the great guy he was before alcohol took over his life. And then that day came when he realized how much he had lost already, with more loss just around the corner. He began the road to sobriety, and it took hold. He and I spent many hours together again, not fishing or doing any of the other things we had once enjoyed together, now we just talked. And talked, and then talked some more.

It has been twelve years since he's had a drink, and whenever I ask him how he did it, his answer is always the same.
"I took it one day at a time," he said. "I never went to bed telling myself I would never drink again. Instead, I thanked God that he had helped me through another day of sobriety. And each morning when I woke up, I told myself that only for today, I would not drink."
And then he told me something that I hope will be inspirational for you. "Knowing that there were people in my corner rooting for me," he said. "People who were waiting for that guy who used to be me to show up. That helped me a great deal."

What I'm saying here, dragonflyrose, is that while I don't really know you, I'd bet a month's pay that there are people who know you that are waiting for the old you to show up. And I'm also betting they would do anything to get her back. You have more friends than you know, and all of them are in your corner and waiting to help you if you need it.

You have a tough road ahead of you, but if you look around you'll see that there are people all around you taking the journey with you, all of them looking for Jekyll right along with you.

God bless you! Hang in there, and don't hesitate to ask your friends, and even those of us who just met you, if there is anything any of us can do to make your recovery possible.

Be well, work hard, and remember that you are surrounded by friends, even your writing friends.

Angelo
