As part of my raid from Team Florent, I am reviewing "No Rest For The Weary (my baby killdeer)"  What I really liked about this: I loved this! We have lots of killdeer where I live, so I can connect with this piece very much. I was delighted to find a poem about these birds. They sure go through a lot to protect their young (and eggs) with the disadvantage of being on the ground, not up in trees, like most birds. You might want to consider: I thought this was pretty darn good, the flow was mostly smooth other than perhaps the 5th Stanza, which could use a wee bit of work. The 4th line in that stanza Even hot sun ray felt a tad forced. But other than that, I wouldn't change a thing!   Final thoughts... I have a special heart for killdeer. Such brave little things, laying their eggs in rocky terrain to blend in, unnoticed. They are so funny to watch when you get near their eggs and they pretend to have a broken leg, trying to divert you away from the eggs.  It happens every time! And really makes me wonder how they all know to do this! Amazing. One time, my hubby mowed over a newly hatched nest near our pond. He felt awful, as he'd never seen it there. The mother killdeer was devastated. It was quite traumatic for all of us, as she cried out her mournful loss for quite a long time. Ugh. It made me cry. My hubby felt just terrible.
