I think the idea for this story is interesting, and I love the disclaimer that your father isn't really like this. That's a good thing because it's never nice when someone is trying to dictate your life and career! I think it's interesting because all writers write for different reasons. Some do want to do it as a career, while others are comfortable with writing as a creative outlet, a hobby only. I don't think there's anything wrong with any type of writer, but it's definitely true that most writers don't become a Stephen King in terms of popularity and monetary income.

While I enjoyed the idea of this story, I think it would be interesting to see it played out through characters. If it's not a true story anyway, it might be nice to see characters play out these parts as opposed to being told in the past tense. Make one be the father and one be the son so that you can show the conflict between the two. Then you can show the outcome where the moral of the story would be that you should do what makes you happy, even if it doesn't bank you a lot of cash.

Overall, I like the theme of your story and I think it's important for writers and the family/friends of writers to realize that money isn't the most important thing in life. I think it might be more interesting if we were introduced to characters to play all of this out. Thanks for sharing!
