Hello Satuawany,

my name is Tiggy and I am reviewing your story as a judge for "What a Character! : Official WDC Contest. Thanks for entering! Please bear in mind that my comments and suggestions are only my opinion. Other reviewers might see it differently.

I liked how you introduced the main character. She was strong and determined, even if she didn’t have all the answers and most of what she tried to achieve was based on rumours; she knew where she was trying to get to. The actual part about faith was quite brief compared to the rest of the tale you weaved around it, but it came across well. The druid was an amazing character. I could imagine him very well; the way you described him, how he spoke, how he acted, I got an image of a father figure the main character didn’t have.

The conversation between the two about religion very intriguing and added a fascinating layer to the tale. The plot was very engaging and the conflict for the main character was compelling, making the readers root for her. It wasn’t a surprise that the druid decided to accept the girl as his apprentice; that much was clear pretty much from the start. The only question was how he was going to get there, or rather, how the main character was going to realise it. I thought it worked well how you structured the story and explained about Danai’s background and her desire to find her place in the world, and she realised that the druid offered her that opportunity.

The dialogue was excellent; it sounded very natural and showed the two characters well while at the same time advancing the plot. I was a little surprised because Danai, while showing her age a few times when she got annoyed, mostly sounded a lot older than she was. That’s not a criticism, it actually fit her character perfectly; it was just noticeable. I liked the descriptions; you created clear images in the readers’ minds made it easy to picture the setting and atmosphere. You did a great job showing what was happening rather than telling it, and I particularly noticed the single point of view (this is something I struggle with so I was taking notes as I was reading. *Laugh*)

Overall, I thought this was a great read and I got a strong sense of the main character’s struggles and the way this was going to get resolved. The ending left me wanting to read more about this character and her journey, and if this was part of a longer story I would definitely read on.
