Hello TheGary,

my name is Tiggy and I am reviewing your story as a judge for "What a Character! : Official WDC Contest. Please bear in mind that my comments and suggestions are only my opinion. Other reviewers might see it differently.

That was an amazing story. I was hooked pretty much after the first couple of sentences; you managed to introduce the characters and convey the essence of the tale within those few words. And after such a great start, the rest of the story didn’t disappoint. The two main characters’ motivation came across very well, first how they sought refuge in their faith, then how they lost it and found a different one. It was easy to understand the fascination with the lamp, and I thought the way you described their need for it, even after a short time, was very good.

The plot perhaps became a little unbelievable towards the end, when everything turned out well because of the lamp, but I loved how you had set up little details early on in the story, like the frayed cable, which became important later. The tale developed at a good pace with an exciting climax and an excellent and fitting ending. I loved the dialogue; it sounded natural and I could hear the children’s different voices quite clearly. It was appropriate for their age as well.

There were some great descriptions that created clear images in my mind as I was reading, and it was especially the little details that brought the tale to life. The mechanics were solid; I don’t have any complaints regarding spelling and punctuation and the story was very polished and flowed well. Overall, this was an exceptional read.
