What a nice little story on impulse buy. I had to smile at the title since everybody it seems is doing it: buying things in the spur of the moment just because the item is there, is available and the right amount of money is in your pocket. We do it all the time. In fact I did it just today!

The surprise was the item: a horn. Not the most common of articles and nowhere in your story you talk about why he wanted to buy this. Sure it looks beautiful. But because it looks good as a mantle piece, because he wants it for his collection, because he is a musician? I would have loved to know more.

Anyway, a horn!

What works for me? The marketplace was a beehive of activity all around him. People talking in an incessant buzz, the occasional voice rising above others in a heated argument, some children fighting over a toy -- he couldn't keep his thoughts straight. He wanted to run to the pier, to listen to the calming rhythm of the waves, but he couldn't take his eyes off the horn.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle he was drawn to this instrument.A very nice description of the setting.

Your writing style is very appealing, short and sweet so to say.
