First Impressions: "Invalid Item"  is a beautiful, flowing poem. It has the elements of beauty in the seeming monotony of the desert, a vast expanse of "wasteland" as our ancestors would forlornly call it. It is pure bliss to my muse to read these words, for to me, deserts are an ecosystem just like any other, and just as valuable too. In fact, this flies in the face of those early invasive peoples who declared a Manifest "Destiny" to behold, a doctrine of complete subordination of the lands they sought to conquer, regardless of the impact they caused Mother Nature.

And Mother Nature shall have her way with them, one way or the either.



Overall Impact: This was a love poem to my heart, my very soul. Deserts are simply vast and for the most part, unexploited because there was little in the way of vital things to exploit as it turns out over Time. Unless we speak of mines that offer up minerals, etc, we can see now why deserts wwere written off by so many explorers who failed to see that this world, with a lot of patience and careful planning, certainly WOULD have allowed for a scrappy subsistence.

But certain people are predictable in that manner.

This work touched places of the heart, indeed. We are fed beautiful, impactful imagery, which tells us of the soul of this seemingly "barren world". Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is...is that deserts are filled with living creatures: some dangerous, some not so much so...but all of it a marvel of nature. The author has brought out this beauty in a real sense, and makes sure that we understand what it is that is most important to know...



Errors: No mistakes here.



Summation: Did you know of the thousands of species of birds that fly through deserts on the way north/south during their migration routes? Do you know of the hundreds if not thousands of species of vertebrates that call such a place "home"? If only we as a race of humanity could pay attention to such things...

All in all, this poem truly is a highlight of my evening, for no matter the time of day or evening, I will always have time for poetry like this that gives any ecosystem its due...with an eye for respect and awe for such places like these!
