Aloha, Dave!
I love horror, and this is pretty good for a haunted house story. Writing it in the first person was a nice touch, and I like how you described those strange books of your grandfather's (I'd love to read some of those! *Smirk*). Although it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, going up to the attic to investigate that noise kept the story moving at a hair-raising pace.
It doesn't surprise me that you let the place burn down. But it would have been kind of cool to hear that screeching and wailing coming from that evil spirit!
Great job, Dave! The spelling and telling were flawless (thank you!), and the whole piece flowed smoothly and naturally (or at least as natural as a horror piece CAN flow!)
