I enjoyed reading your story.
I am no expert and what's following is my humble review which you may choose to ignore. *Angelic*

That was a little but a thought provoking story. Pets do have a powerful relationship with their owners and they cannot be replaced, leave alone returned.

The story was good to read and I was a little surprised as it ended s quickly. May be you should turn it into a novel. You did mention about your other pets. Who were they and what happened to them? What happens to Misty? There are many places to explore in this story.
