First Impressions: Hey there and thank you for allowing me to read and review your thoughtful poem entitled: "Invalid Item" . All told, this poem was quite filled with simile, some metaphor ... and plenty of heart. We all know the difference between elated emotions and depressed. We all know that depressed feelings, when put to paper, can somehow elicit more of the same too, but that in and of itself is fine. Those of us reading and reviewing here on WDC find poetry like this and wade in, come what may. The human psyche is this vast warehouse of memories, of action/reaction, of so many things. When we read lines that allude to coffee being spilled upon the earth, it is almost like a quick thought arrives on the mind; straight from the scriptural world we are reminded of those words - "From the Earth I arose...and unto the Earth, so shall I return." In a heartbeat, this poem hammers away at us, giving us image atop of image, cascading down to places of where the heart had been hurt years (or months) ago... and we in turn know how much it is that these words mirror back to us not just our experience, but the human experience as a whole.... Overall Impact: I liked the imagery used in such a way as to systematically give emphasis to nearly every line. It worked for me in a lot of ways, and within the writing itself, I found mine own experience "spoken to" - made relevant, allowing me to grasp way back when.... Such is the power of poetry indeed.... Errors: I found no obvious errors in this meticulously written poem. Summation: Granted, there is a lot of experience in this world whereby we find ourselves given just so many experiences in Life. Literally so. And who out there only wishes to remember the good...and none of the bad. To me, recalling the bad also brings to the fore the idea that through them, not only are we tested, but through them, we are made stronger. Stronger than we might ever believe. In the days ahead, I think that the person who maintains a well-balanced outlook and is capable of capitalizing upon the mistakes made in the past will ultimately not only be happier, but be able to find greater joys in life as well. A well-written poem about tough, tough experiences in life, I think that we are made the richer for reading it. KEEP WRITING!!!!!!
