Season's greetings, Gale.
I'm not sure what to say about this, other than it's a very well written account of what you, your pets, and most importantly, your parents have and are going through in their old age. The descriptions you used were really good, and I can tell (even though you don't come right out and say it) that you care about each of these pets and parents very much.
I lost my father 13 years ago. He was also getting up there in age (81), and I watched him struggle to get out of his recliner and make his way into the kitchen (all hunched over) for a cup of coffee. I knew he was hurting, and it broke my heart. I lived with him in his last few years and helped him whenever I could, but he was a proud man and rarely would accept any help.
It hurts me to say this, but I was almost relieved for him when he finally passed on. I really don't think I'd want to live like that when I get that old.
Nice job with this, Gale.
One tiny niggle:
