Brian,

This is a little feedback on the item you wrote for the September round of "The Christian Writing Contest"  When I first opened your item, I thought you had written a poem. Then I realized you had put the lyrics of a song there and written your entry using that song as a starting point. Then there was a shocking line in the song! I about had a heart attack when I read those words. Thank goodness I went on to read your essay.


The song and the story behind it is sad but works well with the verse you choice to use:

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.



However, it made me google the song's author. I was sad to discover he has never embraced his mother's faith. You wrote "The Father spared no sympathy for the mother's son...". I am not sure what you meant by this statement. At first, I thought you were referring to the abusive step-father but then I realized you capitalized Father so I am thinking you are referring to God.

For myself, I must believe the Father has extended His Hand time and again to folks like Keenan—offering reconciliation but leaving the choice of relationship up to them.

You are right in your concluding statement:

God's love is restorative for those who accept.
