Hi Delmar, I have read this piece again. I love the beginning about the sense of smell and how it transports us back to a time. Maybe evoking a good memory or an unhappy one. The father hated his wife smoking, maybe the smell of smoke reminded him of betrayal. That look, the one that only mothers can give, as if they are looking into your soul, you described as if she were taking an inventory of his bones. That’s a pretty amazing line. I hope I understand the rest of the sorry tale and that is the father wanted to make his boy resilient enough before he took his life? Years down the track the man takes the same path? As you said in your email, it is obscure, something to read several times and appreciate . Cheers Sue My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Get CASH!" .
