*BalloonR* Welcome to WDC from "Newbie Welcome Wagon! *BalloonR*

Hi, Margaret!
First off, I think it’s great that you’re following your dreams, and that so-called ‘teacher’ who told you that your story was childish was not just wrong, but she had no right to say that. Did she give you any suggestions on how to go about it differently?
OK. This piece isn’t bad at all. It’s not so much a story as it is a the telling of a memory, and I totally believe you. I saw mother as a bright light a few months after she passed away, so I know there’s something beyond this life.
Now as for those people who you think ignore, don’t worry about that. They are who they are, and leave it at that. Some people aren’t worth talking to, anyway!
Here’s the one thing I really want to say: if writing brings you joy, then that’s all that counts! It’s also one of the main characteristics of being a writer. People who HAVE to write are not writers. Take Stephen King for instance. He doesn’t write for the money or the fame; he writes because it’s in his blood! He writes because he loves to write, and brings him the same things you mentioned: it makes him happy and no doubt helps him sleep better at night.
I don’t want to brag, but since I joined this magnificent site I’ve review over 11,000 stories and items on here, and hundreds, if not thousands of writers, a good many of them Newbies. I never tell anybody they shouldn’t write (unless they can’t even spell ‘the’ correctly, and even then I won’t come right out and say it!).
I know you’re going to love this place, Margaret, and I’m so glad you joined. I run a horror contest on here called "SCREAMS!!! (I noticed you dabble in horror) where my judges and I set prompt for authors to write their tales of terror, and I’m proud to say that a few of those stories have even gone on to be published! Since joining Writing.Com, I've had 12 different stories published by 8 different publishers, including "Alias 'Colt' Dawson which was published in The 2016 Writing.Com Anthology.
Taking writing classes is great step, and I can guarantee you that the more you put into this site, the more you’ll get out of it. Make some friends, review others and let them know what you think of their stories, join some groups who share the type of writing you do, and most of all, HAVE FUN!
And DON’T EVER LET ANYBODY PUT YOU DOWN!
Now...one of the things I’m known for, for better or worse, is correcting spelling, typos, and grammar mistakes. Or ‘niggles’ as we call them here. Some people call me a ‘grammar Nazi’. So be it. I is what I is.
So here’s a few niggles you might want to check:
‘rosy pink cheeks(,) not a wrinkle out on her face’
‘In her right hand she had a cane and(,) in her left(,) she had an old lantern’ (a cane, and in her left she had an old lantern)
‘I don't believe there is a lantern like it on earth today(.) Because I have donesome research on the internet, trying to find something similar with no luck. (this should be all one sentence without a period between ‘today’ and ‘because’ and no comma between ‘internet’ and ‘trying’)
theliving
room’
‘as she did this the living room became dark again.’ (this should be a whole new sentence)
‘Although I prefer not to write about them(.) I am all about writing inspiring stories.’ (should be a comma)
‘I also want to clarify that all my encounters I have been without seeing wings, and I have wondered about that too.’ (awkward sentence)
Kee ponw ritin gon (that’s my way of saying ‘Keep on writing on’), and welcome to WdC! If you like to write, then you’re going to love it here!
PS-You might want to get your bioblock (biography) set up so we can know a little something about you (hobbies, favorite books/authors, location, etc.), but that's up to you, of course.
PSS-And since you’re new here, perhaps you’d like to check out "Noticing Newbies and introduce yourself to the rest of the community if you haven’t already.
