This isn't bad, and in fact it tells a lot about the conflicts teens have with their parents in this day and age (and maybe ALL the time!). Some kids just don't want to learn, and sadly they're going to wind up learning the hard way about the world when it's too late.
I love to read (and write), so when I heard one person on this site say he hated to read but he thought he was a great writer, I just shook my head! You simply CAN'T be a writer without reading! The two go hand in hand, just like peanut butter and tuna fish jelly!
Sorry, I digress.
What I'm trying to say here is that the mother is making a good point about good grades getting good jobs. I just wish I'd gotten better grades when I was in school! What sux is that I could have--I'm of average intelligence--but I just wanted to party too much! *Headbang*

One thing this piece could use is some periods, but other than that, the spelling and grammar were pretty good.
