*BalloonR*    Welcome to WdC from the "Newbie Welcome Wagon *BalloonR*

Good day to you, Beholden , and welcome to WdC.
For the record, my real name is Jack Tyler, and my handle is a reference to my steampunk days; I'm transitioning to horror, but try to review a wide variety of styles and genres. While I have a few books in print, I am neither a famous author nor a renowned critic. I'm just a guy with an opinion that I'm here to share, and if you disagree with anything I say here, remember that the only opinion that matters is yours.

I'll be brief here, because I don't find any problems to belabor, other than the fact that the story doesn't lead to any grand conclusion or discovery. It seems like part of a larger story, but I'm probably missing the point.
That aside, this can be viewed as a demonstration of style, and let me say that the style is delightful. Reminiscent of Lewis Carrol or A.A. Milne, it simply screams Victorian. This is the kind of gentle children's story I remember from my childhood, reading my grandmother's children's book, A Child's Garden of Verses. It feels like it should lie in the middle of a dozen more or less like it that combine to tell a story as a series of vignettes. The characters and setting are magical, pulling the reader into a world long-gone, and surrounding him with the gentleness of idealized, well-mannered children.
I'm tagging five stars onto this, even though it feels like it's part of something bigger. This was a read that took me straight back to childhood, and without a typo or misspelling, which is a feat in itself. Well-done, and thank you for sharing; this brightened my afternoon considerably, and after a grocery run to Walmart, that is no small accomplishment!

Read well, and write better,
