I like this, and not just because of the surprise ending, but because of the moral idea behind it regarding the 'haves' and the 'have nots' in this world.
Any teacher who would threaten a student with detention for not being able to have affordable footwear shouldn't be teaching, and in fact they should be severely reprimanded! That's what I hate about how our society has become in these 'modern times'. Everything's money, money, money!
Sorry. I'll get off my soapbox, but I just wanted to get that out.
For only using 179 words, you not only told a good story, but you also made a really good statement!
