The rise of tuition and debt in the US [E] A publication of an essay written for english 105. :) |
Welcome to WDC from "Newbie Welcome Wagon" ! Season's greetings, Beleren! For your first piece on here, I thought this was really good! It's a very informative and educational synopsis on the high price of a college education and the alternatives that should be considered, and you made some excellent (and valid) points! I also enjoyed the examples you used, such as your own grandfather and friends. I attended a 2 year community college in the late 1980s, and although I don't remember the exact cost of tuition as it was then, I do know that it has increased substantially since. But the numbers you used for a 4 year college are mind-boggling! You hit the nail on the head when you said that tuition is rising 4 fold in relation to the rate of inflation! I agree 100% that college is not an end-all solution, as some would have us think. My father started out as a truck driver for a shipping company and worked his way up to being a foreman in the warehouse. Fortunately, the company was with a union, so by the time he retired he got maximum benefits and a nice pension! Not to mention that this was up in Alaska and in the 1950s, where the Teamsters practically ran (and maybe still do?) the state. Very good piece, my friend! And thanks for citing those references! Kee ponw ritin gon, Beleren, and welcome to WdC! If you like to write (and you seem to be pretty darn good at it!), then you're going to love it here! PS-You might want to get your bioblock (biography) set up so we can know a little something about you (hobbies, favorite books/authors, location, etc.), but that's up to you, of course. PSS-And since you’re new here, perhaps you’d like to check out "Noticing Newbies" and introduce yourself to the rest of the community if you haven’t already.
PSSS-If you want more exposure for your items you can put them on the Please Review Page under Community on the left hand side. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
