Hello, Steven!
This is a nice look into your personal life, and I thank you for sharing it. Not everyone would do this.
This is pretty deep, and I can totally relate to it. I also have some serious regrets about the decisions (or non-decisions) I made when I was a teenager. Probably the most flagrant one was that I didn't set a real goal for myself, and instead wanted to just party all the time. And by the time I finally did decide on a goal, it seemed like it was too late.
I see your point about losing the love of your life, but a lot of people have done the same thing. Don't get me wrong; you have my condolences. But hindsight is something we have to live with, sadly.
We were young, there was no way we could know our futures (my H.S. counselor told me how much potential I had, and that I was probably going to waste it if I didn't straighten up - but did I listen?), so living in the past isn't going to help anything. I'm 54, and pretty close to your age, as far as I can tell. I wish I could start over, but it is what it is, so I'm hoping I'm going in the right direction now.
One line that really hit me was: 'It feels like I live in the past. Worse, it feels like my past lives in me.'
You can't let it do that to you, my friend! You had a decision to make, and you made it. And you should NOT have been expected to follow in anybody's footsteps, even if it was you father!*
Sorry, but that's about all I got.
Kee ponw ritin gon, Steve! Thanks for sharing this look into your life, and congratulations on your promotion to Preferred Author!
*I lost my mother when I was 11.
PS-I see you've got a lot of things published! *Shock2* That's one thing to really be proud of! I know I'M impressed! I hope to see my own name on a novel one day, but at least I've got a few short stories published.
