This piece is very relatable and comes straight from th heart. It is written like you're speaking to the reader, one can imagine a voice saying it. You tell the story in a straightforward way.

Suggestions:
1. Maybe more about why this was such a special friendship - what did you share or talk about that meant so much? While the reader can understand what the feelings were, there is no clue how these feelings developed.
2. Some WritingML like line-spacing and font, maybe.
3. The current ending is probably the true ending -- but I also feel that you could write something a bit hopeful to round it off. Maybe you've found another friend, or maybe you're finding another way to cope with the loss of this friendship ...? Or maybe even learned that you are your own best friend ... ?
