Based on why the chicken crossed the road, these are examples of why that you gave here.

Any of them could be true. Chickens are curious animals too so they might see a shiny object and seek to investigate what it is.

If where chickens are kept isn't secure, they may end up outside the coop or pen and then become a target by a bigger and hungry animal.

That part about grasshoppers is a good one too. I've seen how they go crazy trying to catch them.

The format on this piece works well as a list.
