This is a poem about a person denying their emotions and physical drives in favor of their faith. I admire this poet for the attempt whether or not the self denial was successful. The conflict in this poem is very real and palpable. It is one everyone goes through at some time to some degree. Not everyone has this self-awareness and impulse control.
