I was drawn in to read this piece of yours because my family is in a similar situation where we have to decide whether we keep MIL in the hospital with daily acute care treatments or take her home for hospice.

What an emotional piece. My condolences to you and your family. You should consider seeking publication for this piece. I don't know where though and who would read it. I got a lot from reading this. As you described the way everything was set up with nurses, back up nurses, and other people who came at specific times and also were on call, I kept picturing my house with MIL in the same situation.

Reading how much support your mom and family, and dad got during this time was a huge relief for me. I keep picturing sitting here all by myself with someone coming over once a week or less. Clearly, the amount of help is commensurate with the client's needs.

The text flowed in an easy to read chronological narrative. I followed along as the diagnosis was made, treatment was attempted, and finally the weeks when it was becoming apparent that these were the last weeks.

The final act of kindness from dad to make sure that there was someone there to comfort you and mom was very emotional and made me tear up. As sad and tragic as the story is, it also shows off the positives of leaving this life surrounded by family instead of lonely or hooked up to machines in a sterile hospital room.

I try to avoid this phrase, but in this case it applies: thank you for sharing this experience with readers here on the site.
