About This Newsletter

A banner for the Romance/Love newsletter.

It’s the end of February and there’s a lot of stuff going on. St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and people love to celebrate everything Irish. Quite honestly, I didn’t think I was Irish until very recently. My Granny told me when I was a young girl I just had a “smidgen,” of Irish, but when I did 23 and Me last year, I found out I was 15% British and Irish! What a pleasant surprise.

I did a whole bunch of research about Harlequin Publishing and I was going to talk about it in the body of my Newsletter, but then I just went on and on about Frozen so I thought I’d save Harlequin for another day. Besides, Frozen seems a bit more appropriate considering the time of the year. *Smile*

It’s Girl Scout Cookie time! Who doesn’t LOVE *Heart*ma girl scout cookie? As early as 1917, the Girl Scouts started baking cookies in their homes to help finance troop activities. In 1933, cookies sold for 23 cents a box. The girl scouts started commercially marketing their cookies by selling their boxes in the storefront windows. In 1936, cookies were nationally licensed to be sold. During World War II, the Girl Scouts sold calendars because baking supplies were rationed. There have been many changes through the years from cookie bakers, cookie boxes, and cookie formulas. Chocolate mints became Thin mints - and every year we support by buying a box or two to help the girls.

Question for you: What’s your favorite Girl Scout Cookie? Why?

Letter from the editor

Just recently, I saw Frozen the Musical, the official tour and Frozen 2. I absolutely LOVED Frozen when it came out in 2013, because of the ending! It wasn’t about romantic love, (though there was some in there) but about a deep, sibling love that I think a lot of people can understand.

Just recently, DEC 2019 to FEB 2, 2020, Frozen the Touring Musical was in LA. I wouldn’t have seen it, but some of my co-workers had gone, and were just gushing that it was phenomenal! (There is a production currently on Broadway as well) So, I got a ticket and went to see it. I LOVED it! The music and acting were top notch, and what I enjoyed was there was more depth than the movie. Both Elsa and Anna were fleshed out a bit more and there was a deeper understand of Elsa’s conflict.

There were several more musical numbers added to score along with your “Frozen” favorites. I especially liked, “I Can’t Lose You,” (wrote for the tour, you won’t see it on Broadway), “Dangerous to Dream,” “Monster,” “Colder by the minute,” and “What do you know about Love?” When Elsa sang “Frozen,” the performance was dynamic and took your breath away. The special effects, especially for a theatre show, will amaze you. I had to take my boys to see the play. Thankfully, they were good sports and went. Both enjoyed the show. I think it was a combination of a live performance and overall production. My older son is a theatre major and couldn’t help but find the lighting and sound systems. Lol.

I found it curious that the majority of little girls dressed up as Elsa, as Frozen is told from Anna’s perspective and the movie is about her journey. There were a couple of Anna’s, and a couple of Kristoff’s. I suppose while Anna was the more traditional heroine, Elsa is the more complex character.

Frozen 2 was definitely Elsa’s story. I almost didn’t want to see it because my son told me the ending and I thought the ending wasn’t fitting with Elsa’s journey. Judgemental, aren't I?

So what is it that makes Frozen so appealing? What do you LOVE about Frozen? The characters? The dynamic between Elsa and Anna? How the overall story portrays love? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

FEEDBACK FROM MY ROMANCE/LOVE NL DATED 29 JAN 2020:

Warped Sanity
Great newsletter. The bit of history behind the holiday was interesting, especially the bit about it being used as a distraction from the plague.

ForeverDreamer
This is very interesting information. I really didn't know much about St. Valentine's Day.

I’m glad you found it interesting.
