I remember turning twenty. It was an exciting time because I was finally considered an adult with the ability to legally enter bars that sold alcohol. I'm sure there were other things I could now do, but since I lived in Oklahoma that was the most important action I could take. At twenty, I remember looking forward to my twenty-first birthday because that was when I could vote. I am sure there were other things I could legally do at twenty, but I don't remember what they were nor do I remember celebrating my twentieth birthday by going into a bar.
I celebrated my twentieth birthday by having a cake with thick frosting and twenty candles. I am not sure whether I blew all the candles out the first time or if it took me a couple of big breathes to do it. Since blowing out birthday candles has never been a big deal in my life, it does not matter. The one thing I do remember about my twentieth birthday was unwrapping my birthday present without my sibling unwrapping one of their Christmas presents, and that was a big deal for me.
Writing.com's twentieth birthday has gotten me to wondering about how my favorite fantasy and science fiction characters would celebrate their twentieth birthday. How would Bilbo Baggins celebrate turning two decades old? How would Luke Skywalker celebrate his twentieth birthday? How would one of your characters celebrate their twentieth birthday? Does your culture or nation have a special way to celebrate an individual turn two decades old? Have you written a story or poem about your favorite science fiction or fantasy character turning twenty? Pleas let me know.

Excerpt: Vessel, the word could mean so many things. For Antonia, it had taken on a sinister meaning when she met Rufus. His offer had been more than tempting, power, money, fame. All he wanted in exchange was one small thing, a tiny corner of her soul. He didn't want to own it. He hadn't couched the offer in the same terms as a devil's bargain. I swore she would not end up in hell just because she agreed.
Excerpt: The cliffs of Charon tower high,
and that is our spring getaway.
A grand vacation in the sky,
the moon of Pluto, cold and gray.
Excerpt: It was a stormy night one hundred years ago, as the wind whipped down the mountain side ripping trees from their roots and threatening to destroy the houses in the tiny hidden village on the cliff side. The high elves of this cursed by time village huddled in fear in the castle above them a baby's cries rang out in the night sky, muffled by the raging storm. The castle's shutters slammed violently in the gale force winds as the rain pelted the castle windows. Inside a room lit by bee wax candles a baby lay in her mothers arms, The high elf gazed upon her newborn daughter and spoke the words,

Excerpt: Preface: The author claims to have written the following story in 710 BC while being hung upside down in his cave with rope after a cave invasion from some primitive types, there to steal his rocks and stuff. His hands were also bound together so he had to write these events with his left teeth, (being that he was left toothed and the other teeth had gone missing.) He had to use a chisel on his stone wall, swinging feverishly to carve out each letter with exacting strokes, (later to be transposed onto large leaves at some undefined time and place and stored for safe keeping and future distribution.

brom21  writes: In Arthurian lore, the Kingdom of Summer is the new realm Arthur is to establish. I read of it from a series called Pendragon Cycle. It is a realm where all of Britain is at peace under the High King Arthur. It's a good saga but it got published in 1994. The writing technique is kind of out of date. lol. I still think it is excellent. Thanks for this!
