This newsletter is about the thing we all love: a good mystery, whether it be a murder, a robbery or an abduction, we love mysteries. As I thought about thinking on the things we are thankful for, I thought back, to if I, were a thief. Or a murderer that had not been captured. I'd be thankful for still being at large. I can still enjoy my trips to Starbucks for morning coffee as I plan out my next theft. Or my next kill.
I felt a bit morbid as I turned that over in my mind and thought to look for mysteries where the "bad guy" gets away for this month's newsletter. We, the law abiding members of society, find ourselves thankful for our health, our families, our pets...the "bad guy (or gal)" might too be thankful similar things , but more importantly, they're glad to free of the long hand of the law. Without further, let us look to the stories for thankful criminals at large for this newsletter. |

This month's November newsletter finds us at a different place this time. We have just celebrated Halloween, collecting candy under the moonlight and now, we put that away till next year, and look towards the month of gratitude. In November, Lent begins (for those who celebrate Lent), we start thinking about next tax season and the first of the biggest chow times of the year: Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to stop and reflect, to show gratitude for still celebrating another Thanksgiving, for the family, friends, your pets, your health...we say we're thankful for these things.
What if you're a criminal? What if you've abducted a person and still have them in your basement? Or shed? What is a person like this thankful for? I'm sure some would say they could have families or pets and they probably are glad to have them in their life. But what would a guy (or gal) like this be thankful for? I say, they are thankful for not getting caught. The cops haven't caught them (and might never catch them.). So, I thought let's look at the criminals that got away with their crimes, and I think, that if they thought about it during Thanksgiving, they'd be thankful.
The first writer we'll begin with is Peter Swanson, the author of "The Kind Worth Killing" and others, in this book, the Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a pantomime and things turn dark when one of them move to make this dark fantasy a reality. You don't have to take my word for it...just read it for yourself.
The Kind Worth Saving: A Novel: ($12.99 from Amazon.Com)
Now, we'll move to Alex Finlay, the author of a nearly close cold case murder mystery, "Every Last Fear", the story of a family whose life is shaken to the core and the last remaining family member attempts to find the family's killer, even though the whole community thinks the son is the killer. A true to life murder mystery that nearly kits too close to home in its realism but you should read for yourself and decide.

and lastly, we will look at another murder mystery from author Simone St. James, "The Book of Cold Cases", in 1977, two men were killed at Claire Lake by the Lady Killer murders. The men were murdered using the same gun but the killer was not found. It is the tale of murder with no killer to be found till much later when the case is reopened. A really good tale but you got to check it out for yourself.

They bring elements of the true-crime community we all know and love into their narratives to craft unforgettable characters and twists that will stay with you for days. I really hope you like this selection for this month...it's a bit different than what the newsletters in the past...who knows, maybe this will continue.
