Should You Make Resolutions?

It's the time of year when we start hearing about resolutions and goals. They can be great tools to help you achieve, but do they work? Do people stick to them?

I feel like writers might be different from the typical crowd. I found statistics that state only 16% follow through on resolutions (though 46% last at least 6 months, so that's encouraging, right?) but I have a feeling writers might stick to their writing-oriented goals a bit more than that.

For most writers, I think, writing is a passion, something they're driven to do. We often do it for fun and whether it's an email or a note, most of us write every day!

I do, however, think you don't need to make resolutions. If you're not feeling it, don't feel pressured to make some lofty goal to set your mind to in the coming year. It can have positive effects and give you an extra dose of inspiration and will power, but for some, it can increase worry and anxiety. Just one more thing to think about every day.

I'm at a place where I'm working on accepting who and where I am in my life, so I probably won't make resolutions this year, but I'll certainly cheer anyone on who wants to make them!

If you do make resolutions, follow the "SMART" method: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Realistic. Keep a journal about your goals and progress! Join a group of like-minded individuals.

(And if you do make them, be sure to enter them in: "Dear Me: Official WDC Contest when it opens in January!) *Wink*

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*
