About This Newsletter

The magic of Christmas is often an inspiring time of year when you get the impression that almost anything is possible. There tends to be a lot of nostalgia and emotional baggage surrounding the holidays, particularly Christmas. This is a time when the memories of someone who is no longer with us or who had a major emotional impact on their life really hit home. A holiday romance makes your reader experience those feelings again, but nearly always has a happy resolution.

Letter from the editor

Readers want to get away from the reality of stress, bills, and arguments. Instead, try to make your fictitious family gatherings merry, and fill your story with charming Christmas traditions. Just in any other romance, you need a couple attracted to each other. However, unlike a regular romance, your couple will probably have a shorter time to get to know one another. Christmas novels often take place over days or a few weeks. A regular romance can span weeks, months, or even years. This means you are going to have to speed things up in their brief time together. Your couple can connect during snowball fights, kiss under the mistletoe, and snuggle up to a wood fire. Enjoy creating the perfect Christmas as a backdrop to the romance of your couple.

Take care not to spend too much time going into the details of Christmas traditions. Make sure the primary focus is on the romance and the story. Your story can be filled with all kinds of things, but the important thing to keep in mind is that Christmas is the season of hope and goodwill. Thus, stories that offer a second chance to put your characters' lives on track may leave readers with a feeling of satisfaction.

Ultimately the reader should finish your story and feel like they've experienced a range of emotions and have come out the other end feeling better about themselves and or feeling like they can better manage whatever hardship they are facing. That's the hope, anyway.
In the end, have a good time with your writing and lose yourselves in the enjoyment of the holidays.
