Letter from the editor

Recently I received a Notification of a fellow member's WDC anniversary.

I had favorited this member some time back because I was interested in her writing journey here. In her particular case I had favorited her (I clicked on the Icon: Favorite Plus to make a Favorite Icon: Favorite, a white hand with an extended forefinger that has a string tied around it). But I did not Fan her (orclicking on the Icon: Favorite again to make a Fan Icon: Fan Favorite, which indicates that it's something you've become a public Fan of, rather than leaving as a private Favorite).

You can find Notifications in the Navigation Menu (upper left) right after Newsfeed. Clicking on Notifications opens a small window. At the top is the word All followed by some icons, which indicates the type of notification they are.

All          *Thumbsup*          *Tagg*          *Penb*          *Star*          *Cakeb*

*Bulletr* All: Displays all the notifications you have received in a given period of time. Scrolling to the bottom should display the words Show More. Clicking on that link displays 15 additional notifications. There may be a limit to how far back your notifications go (but I went back to 09-03-18.) Each notification contains the who, what, when and where for that note followed by an icon to indicate the type of notification.

*Bulletr* *Thumbsup* is a reaction icon. That is, someone reacts to you in some way, or your post in a public forum. Reactions include *ThumbsUpL* , *Cool*, *Heart*, *Care*, *Laugh*, *Shock*, *Cry*, and *Angry*.

*Bulletr* *Tagg* tells you when another member tagged your name in a forum post, book entry, or article.

*Bulletr* *Penb* is for replies to forum posts.

*Bulletr* *Star* is for new ratings are your items.

*Bulletr* *Cakeb* tells you that a member you have favorited or fanned is celebrating a WDC Anniversary.

Like your Email and Newsfeed links, Notifications will display a number when you have something to view. With tongue in cheek, I'm guessing the social interactions part of having notifications would be moot without someone actually being notified that someone was thinking of (highlighting) them.

At least, you'll know someone knows you exist and you may respond in turn. After all, interaction with other members is one of the best parts of this site.

Reach out and touch someone in the coming year. It might just be the best thing for you and your writing journey.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Mailbag:

From BIG BAD WOLF is hopping : I own and add to a lot of interactives.

From the Newsfeed:

From N.A Miller : Nope... no time for them. Always writing... and never have a chance to look into them.

I understand about busy schedules. Then again, they might be a source for writing ideas. *Sshh*

From Elisa the Bunny Stik : I tried to start an intentionally bad interactive story years ago. It's currently on private, but I'm considering resurrecting it.

Hmmm, I wonder about the story behind that attempt.

From ~Lifelessons~ : During GOT yes !! And the Halloween Party... much fun!

I can see how these foster Interactives.

From s : I tried adding to a couple but for many reasons the interactives on WdC do not do it for me. As a ghostwriter for some semi-famous Australians that is about the most interactive I get. I can see why some enjoy them but not for me. Sorry.

As is said, to each his own. Even WDC has evolved.
