Summer

A minor irritation I feel sometimes - Hearing ads say people are "off for the Summer." Who's off? Teachers and students, maybe? Of course, with camps, sports, second jobs, and other obligations, is anyone actually off during the Summer?

Still, there's something about Summer that might give the illusion that we have more time. Maybe it's the additional sunlight? Or the memory of feeling free as students when school ended for the year.

It sometimes feels easier to take on more obligations when we feel like we have more time. It's a great time to host a contest or activity! Or to enter one.

One problem with the illusion of having more free time is that it's possible to over-book yourself. For me, calendars usually work. Or I keep lists or sticky notes or phone alerts to remind me of deadlines. (I've learned recently that it's a lot harder for people with ADHD to form habits, so constant reminders are necessary for me!)

The other issue with Summer is that it can be tricky to catch others' attention with everything going on! It's tough to host a contest or activity and have no one show up for it! Look into the ways you can advertise, including adding the name or ID number to your handle, linking it in your signature, including it in your bio & highlighted items and even Sponsoring it using gift points - "BidClick System: Sponsored Items, Links & Genres.

Summer can be a great time to disconnect and re-energize, but it can also be a great time to spend on your hobbies and interests. If you love writing, take your laptop or notebook to a quiet place and write. You can still write even if you're taking time away from the internet! And then post your writing when you get back! *Wink*

Check out my picks below for contests & activities to participate in!

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*

Ask & Answer

Feedback from my last newsletter "Contests & Activities Newsletter (June 28, 2023), which discussed belonging:

Yes, I feel a sense of belonging at WDC. For a while, it seemed the site was slowing down a little. It seemed that overall participation was down across writing, reviewing, and other activities. In the last few months, I have a feeling that members here are waking up again to how special this place is. It's one of the last places on the internet where we can come from different opinions, cultures, even religions (or none) and still get along and work together on the craft of writing.
Also, thank you for featuring "CLOSED: Merit Badges for Fun Raffle in your newsletter.{/c:rose}
~ Annette

You're welcome, and I'm glad for the increased activity on the site, too!

Thank you for your newsletter. I love the quote you shared: "True belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world." ~ Brene Brown. I can never do that. I guess, I never felt like I belong to the world. However, I can tell you that my characters definitely feel more at home than I am. *Laugh* ~ Elycia Lee ☮

Well, that's something, I suppose! *Laugh*
