Not everyone is capable of adding good comedy to a horror story. For one, horror is supposed to make you flinch, bring your heart rate up and make you jumpy. Comedy does the complete opposite. It turns those exact emotions upside down and makes it more comfortable.
I am not that type of writer. My sense of humor is very sarcastic, dark, borderline mean. It isn't easy for me to be truly funny and get my point across because a lot of people don't understand sarcasm.
Since we're on that subject, another sarcastic writer on this site is your one and only Robert Waltz  who happens to write for the Comedy newsletter. His sarcasm is more mellow and easier to understand. I love his sense of humor. While I haven't visited his portfolio much I know that he'd be the perfect type of comedy horror writer. You can sense it through his words.
Another comedy writer would be Sssssh! I'm not really here.  and she is not sarcastic at all. She's straight forward but has an amazing sense of humor. She's also a Comedy Newsletter writer. Since she is a witch I'm more inclined to think that she'd have no qualms pulling off a good story that includes horror and comedy at the same time.
Can you?
Mixing these two genres together is almost like riding a roller-coaster. You anticipate the feelings you'll experience and your heart rate goes up as the ride starts. Then, in the blink of an eye you're flying down with your stomach in your chest, your behind just a little off that seat and you hold on for dear life. Then the ride evens out and you feel as if you survived the worst just to do the same all over again and even though you're scared that you might fall off that ride you still laugh.
When you reach the part where the roller-coaster makes a 180 degree turn you begin to laugh hysterically because your friend that's sitting next to you is squished against you due to the speed force. You're screaming, laughing, and gasping for air all at the same time while your body is detached from the seat and your friend is slowly inching to steal it. You also fear that your head might hit the actual structure as you speed under it but the laughter is still there. What a hilarious way to die, right?
Once the tables are reversed and your friend is in the same position you were in just a few moments ago, you laugh even harder because you already know what you experienced. For a nanosecond a thought crosses your mind. What if your friend's head hits the underbelly of the structure and falls out? You glance over and see the terror mixed with their joyous tears. Your belly is in knots from all the laughter mixed with fear but you can't stop it.
While you're on that ride it feels like it would never end but when it comes to an abrupt halt and all your insides scream at you as to what the heck you've done to them just to get back into place, you almost feel that it was too short-lived. Your mind is grasping for what's left over of that adrenaline rush and when it doesn't find any, it decides to talk you into doing it again. Mind you, you'll get off that ride with wobbly legs and knees but that will make you laugh again. You'll think it wasn't so scary after all and you'll look for another ride, a scarier one, just so you can experience the same feelings again.

I get a lot of flack from my Born Again brother.
My childhood wasn't as bad but my brother-in-law used to tell his kids that monsters are everywhere whenever his kids wouldn't listen. I don't do that. I'm more like you where I tell my child that the real evil are humans. I'm not sure if that's the right direction either but hey.
