So Many Stories To Tell


Depending on how you write, you have likely experienced one or all of these before:

The paper is so white *BookOpen*

The lines are so empty *Notepad*

That cursor is pumping all alone *Computer*

Instead of coming up with vibrant worlds, you're staring down your pen or onto the screen and your mind feels as if it is blank.

There are ways out of that scenario. They can be found on Writing.Com.

Find a place that gives you a deadline. There is nothing like that feeling that the time to write is now. A good jolt of panic with the days and hours ticking off and the deadline looming larger and larger will scare you into writing something. Activity hosts who know that you are working on something will sometimes also send out reminders. The comradery of writing along with others has a way of creating more energy. It's like at the gym. You can go by yourself and figure things out. But if you take a group class, the music, the instructor and all the other people there create a flurry of action that sweeps you up with it.

You have a set of characters whom you want to use in a story that is trying to take on a fuzzy form in your mind. You want to tell their story, but it's just not coming together. Get them kicked into high gear with a prompt. Contests and blog activities offer a whole buffet of scenarios. Search out different prompts and genres. Try to picture your favorite character in a scenario that fits a prompt you found. Next, thrust your character into a story with a prompt that makes no sense whatsoever. Not all fiction can be saved by inserting a spaceship, but sometimes, the impossible ends up making the rest possible.
