Hello and welcome to my first Newsletter in 2024!

When I was younger I never thought I'd read or write horror. However unbelievable it might sound, I've been a sweet, quiet, and withdrawn child... But then teenage years happened and well, I can still be withdrawn. What I realized over the years is that I feel a certain type of comfort when reading and writing the horrific stories. It's a quiet place in my mind where mayhem happens and it's welcoming, beckoning, extending a cold hand to join in the fun.
With that, the above mentioned quotes struck a cord with me. Not only because I love quotes. No. There is something about the right ones that simply speak to the soul.
The first monster you have to scare the audience with is yourself.
It's almost laughable until it's not. You're not meant to put on a scary costume, but rather wear your monsters on a sleeve, like your precious heart. When someone says your name, the rest know what to expect. It might not make them tremble and shiver, although, wouldn't that be fun?

I guess it depends on your interpretation of said quote. The good walks hand in hand with evil and neither should tip the scale. There's beauty in this world as well as ugliness. You cannot recognize one without noticing the other. Day and night and so on.
Somewhere in my old newsletters I mentioned that the good is oftentimes overlooked while the bad is almost like a fascination. You don't always write what you know, what you deal with. Your curiosity and creativity likes to explore unknown territories. And monsters are fascinating!
...And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
How deep is that dark well? There are so many people out there who radiate positivity, the good, the pure. Yet, there's a lot more of those who radiate darkness if you let yourself see it. What about you? Or me? If the abyss gazes back into you, it reflects your soul, your deep and dark thoughts. With that said, does every person have darkness within? Or is it simple curiosity?
Your writing comes from your heart, mind, soul. Every horrifying story carries good with it, otherwise that dark light is extinguished, non-existent. Unleashing your monster doesn't require dragging skeletons out of the closet. It does ask for emotions, for thoughts you can't even remember thinking, for the things that tear at the soul. It will provide you with a good story, but like a medusa, don't look it in the eye.
In retrospect, everyone has a monster, a beast living inside them. Some are more tame than others. Then there are those who either hide in a corner and come out once in a while versus the true beast who doesn't write, instead roams the streets at night, hunting little children and instilling fear in adults. It's just a matter of what kind of monster you carry around.
As for me, not that you were wondering, I like to visit my monsters when it's dark. It's so hard making new friends when you get older.
