The Overcommitment Committee
he line between commitment and overcommitment is a slippery thing, especially when viewed from the safety of time.
Wow, that was really profound, especially considering I haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet. When I re-read it, I got an instant headache.
Guess what's on my poor, under-caffeinated mind? Yep, the fact that I did it to myself again. I got all crazy gung-ho and agreed to do a bunch of things with deadlines all lining up this month. It wasn't that I didn't realize that it would work out that way, oh noooooo. No, I was fully, painfully cognizant of the danger. From the safety of "that's weeks or months in future" I blundered along, saying "yes" like it was going out of style.
I painted myself into the proverbial corner, so now I have to do the unthinkable. I have to get organized. Make lists. Do the things on the lists. Check the things off of the lists. *SHUTTERS* For someone like me, who is a pantser and more than a little neuro-spicy, this is a worst case scenario.
If I don't feel like doing stuff, it is easy for me to just scroll on by when an opportunity is presented to accept a task. When I'm feeling all "yeah, I could do stuff", my commitment radar gets chucked in a deep, dark hole, never to be heard from again. Not to worry, I have back-up commitment radars. They are around here...somewhere. I just don't have time to look for them right now. I also don't have time to sign up to do anything new, so at least there's that.
If you are looking for me, I'll be slurping coffee, speed reading, and typing furiously. With any luck, it will all come out making some sort of sense. If you are brave enough, slip some snacks under the door and then run. Save yourself. This overcommitment thing could be contagious. |

I agree with Robert Waltz. I got up to an alarm for over 53 years when I worked full time as a computer Programmer / Analyst. Now that I'm retired, I don't get up until at least noon. But I don't go to bed as early, either!
