About This Newsletter

Well, here we are again, February already! This month is always a special one for me since Valentine arrives on the 14th of February, several family members of mine have birthdays this month (and moi!) this month and it's one of the coldest months where we now live. Yay for February!
This month's newsletter is a special treat since we are visiting Latin mystery writers this month. Some of my favorite authors come from this part of the world and I just stumbled on these writers and truly hope you enjoy the selections chosen for this month.
Without further chatter, let's move forward and settle this matter, and peruse this month's authors.

Letter from the editor

Welcome to our mystery newsletter! Get ready to dive into the captivating world of mystery novels and the talented authors behind them.

In this edition, we'll explore the works of John Scherber, Lauren Munoz, Fabian Nicieza, and V. Castro, as we move along this month's newsletter.

John Scherber, known for his captivating storytelling, has written numerous intriguing novels that keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Explore his enticing mysteries, filled with plot twists, complex characters, and atmospheric settings that transport readers to new and exciting worlds.

Here are two of John Scherber's works: "The Skeleton in the Closet"

Embark on a thrilling adventure in the small Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende as retired detective Paul Zacher investigates a murder mystery.

"The Iguala Affair" - Join Zacher as he delves into his most complex case yet, uncovering a web of corruption and deceit in modern-day Mexico.

"The Morelia Codex" - Discover a captivating blend of mystery, history, and adventure set against the backdrop of the picturesque city of Morelia, Mexico.

Next, we have author Lauren Munoz who is a master of suspense, crafts stories that keep readers enthralled from beginning to end. With her impeccable storytelling and clever plot twists you will not want to put your book down.

Step into Munoz's world of enigmatic mysteries and intricate puzzles that will leave you guessing until the very last page.

Some of her works include the following - "Suddenly A Murder" - Seven friends throw a 1920s–themed party, where it's all pretend—until one of them is murdered. Murdered, investigators declare when they arrive at the scene, and now every party guest is a suspect. There’s the girlfriend, in love. The other girl, in despair. The old friend, forlorn. The new friend, distressed. The brooding enigma. And then, there’s Izzy—the girl who brought the knife. I'll just leave it there; you can guess the rest and we also have to find the murderer.

Then, we move to the next author Fabian Nicizea whose mystery book titled "The Self Made Widow" is one of his more interesting works. Fabian Nicieza brings a unique blend of intrigue, suspense, and drama to his compelling mystery novels, keeping readers enthralled from start to finish.

After mother of five and former FBI profiler Andie Stern solved a murder—and unraveled a decades-old conspiracy—in her New Jersey town, both her husband and the West Windsor police hoped that she would set aside crime-fighting and go back to carpools, changing diapers, and lunches with her group of mom-friends, who she secretly calls The Cellulitists. Even so, Andie can’t help but get involved when the husband of Queen Bee Molly Goode is found dead. Though all signs point to natural causes, Andie begins to dig into the case and soon risks more than just the clique’s wrath, because what she discovers might hit shockingly close to home.

Meanwhile, journalist Kenny Lee is enjoying a rehabilitated image after his success as Andie’s sidekick. But when an anonymous phone call tips him off that Molly Goode killed her husband, he’s soon drawn back into the thicket of suburban scandals, uncovering secrets, affairs, and a huge sum of money. Hellbent on justice and hoping not to kill each other in the process, Andie and Kenny dust off their suburban sleuthing caps once again. This one has a young feel to it but I hope that you give it a shot and enjoy it for the campy romp it turns out to be.

Lastly, we have work from author V. Castro in his book, "Queen of the Cicadas", which I think is an interesting subject to start with. This book was nominated for the Bram Stoker award, which is a horror award not mystery, but bear with me dear reader.

2018 - Belinda Alvarez has returned to Texas for the wedding of her best friend Veronica. The farm is the site of the urban legend, La Reina de Las Chicharras - The Queen of The Cicadas.

In 1950s south Texas a farmworker- Milagros from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is murdered. Her death is ignored by the town, but not the Aztec goddess of death, Mictecacíhuatl. The goddess hears the dying cries of Milagros and creates a plan for both to be physically reborn by feeding on vengeance and worship.

Belinda and the new owner of the farmhouse - Hector, find themselves immersed in the legend and realize it is part of their fate as well.

So, this was the final author we covered this month and I hope to venture back with more authors another month.

I know if you've read my newsletter from the previous year, I normally focus on Valentine's theme but I veered off just to keep from seeming redundant.

Hope these titles are worth your time to read and I do wish you a great Valentine's day this month and we'll see you next month.
