Prepare for the Unexpected

Just as I was going to start writing this newsletter, my power went out! *Shock*

It got me thinking that I could have had a back-up plan. I could have had an extra newsletter stored away just in case this happened!

Unexpected things are going to happen in life, it's one of the things we can depend on, I guess. I know personally, things have popped up that made me late or delayed my attendance or expected participation in online events. It's a good idea to have a back-up plan.

Perhaps have a way to contact someone when you don't have internet access. This may be tough for most, but it can be a good idea to have a way to contact people through a friend or someone you know in "real life."

Be understanding. When a contest or activity host goes silent or winners aren't announced when they were expected, try to be understanding. Sometimes things come up and they have no way of letting you know!

This isn't the newsletter I expected to write this morning, but it is what it is! Life is unexpected sometimes! All we can do is learn from our experiences, right? *Bigsmile*

Feedback from my last newsletter "Contests & Activities Newsletter (March 6, 2024)"  }, which discussed Titles.

I think I've used a combo of those strategies. I come up with a title and let that inspire the story, but most of the times, I start writing and the title organically grows from the story.

I tend to struggle with titles and pick a working title until I can think of a better one. *Laugh*


I do think titles are important, they are often what catches my eye and invokes reading further. I have a difficult time picking out a title, but find it's better to wait until after the item is written; it seems to help guide me.

I agree, and that seems to work for me, too!



Dropping a hint. Red herring. Clearly related. Obliquely related. Prompt related. Double entendre (naughty and otherwise). Eventually, they all get a shot at the title.

I have started giving pieces a title before I write them. This is useful because it gives the file a name rather than "Untitled" and so is easy to find again. Once I've finished the piece, I'll look at the title to see if there's a better one I can think of. Usually I can't, so it stays. But I don't really have trouble with names - they pop out at me and I write 'em down.

That's a good thought! I hadn't thought of that. I think I sometimes use working titles until I can think of something better.
