Getting Interactive!

Interactive stories are the heart on which Writing.Com was originally created, back in the days of Stories.Com. The StoryMaster has added so many other functions and item types to this site since, but the interactive stories are always a fun way to participate and interact with other members around this wonderful community.

*Question* What uses do Interactive Stories have?

Other than what I've mentioned above, you can offer rewards to those who make quality chapters in your stories!

*Question* How do I create an Interactive Story?

1. Click the Writing link at the top of any Writing.Com page.

2. Scroll down to the Writing: Interactive section and click Interactive Stories.

3. Enter a title, select to which folder you'd like to save your item, select which item type your Interactive Story will be.

4. Enter a brief description. Remember that both your title and the brief description is what will draw potential participants, so you want to make it interesting!

5. Select an intro rating and content rating, choose access restrictions, then give the item a passkey, if applicable. Select any group edit access, if necessary, then enter your genres and keywords.

6. In the item body, you will give more explanation as to what your Interactive Story pertains. Give any special instructions, if you have any, give the background to your story, or the first verse of poetry. If you're doing it as a contest, specify the rules.

7. Choose how you'd like to be notified when an addition is made to the story. You can choose for Writing.Com to send a form email to an offsite address, your Writing.Com address, both addresses, or to turn notification off.

8. Select whether or not to make the item rateable and select the Auto-Reward amount you'd like to offer, if applicable.

9. Click Save Item to save your Interactive Story after you have entered all desired information.

*Question* What do I do next?

1. Navigate to the folder in your portfolio where you saved your Interactive Story.

2. Open the item by clicking on its title within your item listings.

3. Click Click Here To Enter This Story! and enter the first chapter.
*Note* Interactive Stories are not searchable until they have at least one chapter. *Note*

*Question* How do I get people to make an entry?

- Have you posted your Interactive Story at "Activities @ Writing.Com?
- Or try sponsoring it in the Writing.Com BidClick system.
- Or maybe submit your Interactive Story to the Contest & Activities Newsletter or any other genre newsletter where the Interactive Story might apply.
- If everything else fails, try revising your story. Maybe there's something unclear or unmotivated about it!

Ask & Answer

Jacknife78 says, "I've recently suscribed to this newsletter and I am glad that I did. Last week you had a great holiday activity that I joined and its going to be alot of fun. I like how you have put the spotlight on Campfires. I currently don't have any myself but have had some in the past and am currently involved in some one elses. I'm not sure really how to put this, I don't feel the campfire you created shows the best that campfires offer. They are normally about give and take, where the next person adds onto what has come before. Your example is more like an In & Out, where each entry has a common theme, but is seperate from the rest. Anyway, thank you for writing this newsletter."

I don't profess that my campfire was one of the best. I simply created it in order to write the newsletter. That is also why I featured 10 other campfires that I felt were of high quality and offered a wide variety of picks. I do apologize if you felt my campfire was rather sub-par, but it was also the first I've ever created! We all get better with practice, I hope! *Wink*

SHERRI GIBSON says, "A very informative newsletter, Melissa. Campfires, contests, and auctions are so much fun!"

Thanks! Glad I could provide! *Smile*

Next month (yes you do get a break from me for the next 3 weeks), I plan on featuring user polls! Submit your poll, your poll questions, or your favorite polls!
