What do you find funny? Do you like obvious puns, like Robert Waltz  , or perhaps you like toilet humor, like myself and darkin. Maybe you're a person who likes deadpan or perhaps even irony. Whatever it is that you find funny, I'm sure that someone else shares your tastes in humor.
Do you write about what you find funny in your comedy stories? Or do you try to write about what you think others might find funny?
I generally write what I know, since the easiest way to convey emotion is when you're feeling that emotion yourself. If I had a bad hair day (or year), I might not feel it as funny at the time, but looking back weeks (or sometimes years) later, I can usually find some kind of humor in the situation. Or I witnessed something that struck me as funny at the time it happened. It's especially effective for me to relay the humor of the situation because it's fresh in my memory.
Are you stuck on what to write? Personal anecdotes usually make for easy writing and help exercise your creative muscle. I know I have several items in my portfolio that I wrote as a warm up for my intended story.
So what do you find funny?
Do you like fart jokes?
Do you like satire?
Do you like deadpan?
Do you like bad puns?
Do you like slapstick?
Do you like knock-knock jokes?
Do you like word play?
Whatever you like, no matter how odd you might think it is, there's a chance that somewhere, someone else shares a similar interest. Tell your fart jokes, your stories of falling off the steps and busting a watermelon, your bad puns, because someone else is bound to appreciate them! |

Nice letter. But I will disagree on one thing. Frankly I dont love a good "fart" joke. I personally find bathroom humor disgusting. I am saddened that it seems most of the good "comedic" movies are about bathroom humor. I love good comedic movies that are about something more and in my opinion better.

Buddy, I like comedy it is a wonderful art form when indulged in correctly. I am afraid after reading your newsletter and the articles you picked especially that stupid poll I can see you do not take comedy seriously and just think its some kind of college kids fart joke experience. If this is the standard that is going to continue I will be bowing out.
We are ask to act with respect when reviewing I think newsletter editors should act with respect when considering the material they putting forward. Just my thought mind you I could be wrong.
Thankfully, we're a diverse and differing culture of writers on this website. While some people find toilet humor to be hilarious, others are not as entertained by it. If we newsletter editors didn't cover a topic because a small portion of the Writing.Com population found it to be offensive or substandard, we wouldn't be able to touch on any topic.
On a personal note, I belly laugh when movies and television shows include some kind of fart or toilet humor. One of my favorite movie scenes is in Van Wilder when one of the characters has to go in front of the school board and the main character had given him laxatives and he ends up sticking his rear end in a garbage can.
I also get tickled by more "high brow" humor, when you have to really pay attention to "get" the joke. As long as it is meant to make me laugh, and sometimes even when it isn't, I tend to find some level of humor.
By the way, how do you take something that is meant to be funny seriously? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?
