Thinking Outside The Box

It doesn't take long to find oodles of Contests and other Activities around Writing.Com. There are so many that some may get lost in the shuffle with only a few views and little or no participation.
Frustrating, isn't it? Especially when you're the host or a hopeful participant.
One way to make your contest or activity stand out is to come up with something different. This week's newsletter will be about that.

If you've been on Writing.Com for any length of time, you will probably notice some things over and over and over again in many different portfolios:
auctions
Gift Point raffles
bland prompts for writing contests

These things aren't bad, but with a site so large, sometimes more needs to be done to really make your item a hit. Sponsoring it is great... but if those viewers aren't interested by what you have to offer, it doesn't really help, does it?

Every time I host a contest or start a new activity, I try to think of something that I haven't seen before on the site. What would I enjoy participating in? What is missing that people don't even know isn't there? How can I take something existing and move it beyond what is currently being done? These questions (as well as a little random kookiness) are usually what fuel my contests, polls, groups, and other things around the site.

Now, it's your turn. *Smile*
