I began working on this week's issue, relating further some results of the Spirituality Survey and my thoughts. Unfortauntely, I have been having some issues with my eyes lately. They are scratchy, and sore and I am having great difficulty focussing on the computer screen today. Rather than cause irreparable eye damage by over straining them when they're already stressed, I have chosen to enlist the help of a dear friend. Shylah is your guest editor for this issue. I know you will enjoy her words as much as I did.

** Answers to Prayer by Shylah **
I thought that it would be interesting to explore the topic regarding answers to prayer. Does each answer only involve physical elements or a sense of peace and understanding? Or does it have a combination of both?
In my own personal experience, a third element came into play.
Several years before digital cameras came about, I was a guest at a friend’s wedding. For me, photography was a hobby even then and I took my point and shoot film camera loaded with a fresh new roll of film. The wedding went off without a hitch and a day or so later I was at home ready to rewind and take the film for processing.
The camera made all the right noises so when the sound stopped, I unhooked the back only to find the film had not rewound and it was now fully exposed to daylight. Slamming the camera shut, I tried again. It was exposed to light a second time. Giving up, I retreated to a walk in cupboard and manually pushed the film back into its case in the dark.
With the problem solved, I sat down and considered the situation. Perhaps some of the film had safely rewound before exposure. Closing my eyes, I prayed that there would be two or three useable photos surviving in that role of film.
Two years prior, I’d done a photography course and former students were able to access the dark room to process and print film. I had two choices. I could accept all I’d been taught on the viability of that film and throw it away or I could take it and send it through the developer as an undamaged film. I chose the latter and the next morning, I boarded a bus with the film in my bag and went to the training premises.
Manual colour film processing doesn’t take long but the steps are timed and systematic. Loading this film as normal I treated it the same as any other film. Following the procedure, I didn’t dwell on the disaster of the day before.
Finally the process was done. With the final rinse I could open the developer canister and unroll the film from the spool for drying. As normal, it’s pegged upside down as it comes out of the film case, most recent pictures at the top. Scanning down the negative strip I could see clear image after clear image. The only fogging due to light damage was on the first three pictures.
It’s true, I didn’t get what I prayed for, but I got so much more. Instead of the three pictures I could use, I got three pictures I couldn’t use.
In this answer to my prayer all three elements came into effect. There was the physical item I prayed about. Once the prayer was over there was a sense of calmness, regardless of the yet unknown outcome. I held onto the faith to try processing the film, and when the outcome was realized, the combined feelings were a mix of joy and amazement. If God can answer a prayer about a mere film, what else will He do?
