About This Newsletter

Once there was this bus which happened to be from Sesamee Street. On the bus were some very strange people with very strange things to do. First there were two identical twins whose names were both Pattie. They were very big and muscular, especially for women. Next there was a man named Ross. He was a extrodinary guy so he was dubbed "Special Ross". After that there was a hefty, overweight man named Leonard. Since his cheeks were so puffy people decided to nickname him "Leonard Cheeks". Finally, all the people on the bus had bunions at which they feverously picked and scratched.

What do we call this bus filled with strange people? Of course; we call them: "Two all-beef Patties, Special Ross, Leonard Cheeks, pickin' bunions, on a Sesamee Street bus!"

Letter from the editor

Do any of you comb through blogs and journals, looking for hilarious stories, that may be someone else's misery? Raise your hand if you do! I know I am one of those who will sheepishly raise her hand while trying to make it seem as though she's batting at a fly.

There are many, witty people in the Writing.Com community who inspire us to laughter with their story of the day or week. Or sometimes they inspire us to laughter with commiseration about a situation. Either way, I admit to being a voyeur who looks specifically for the funny, the witty, and the miserably hilarious.

What does it take to make a funny blog or journal entry? First, you obviously have to have a story. Second is the voice with which you write that story. If you want it to be funny, you have to write it in a tone which is meant to be funny. Although, sometimes, I must admit, that people write in a serious tone and it comes out hilarious, but that's why deadpan is a comedic style. Finally, you have to wrap it all up so that people "get it."

Maybe not everyone will "get it," but if a few do, then I suppose you've at least done the best you could. That's why blogs and journals are so wonderful for practice. Most people aren't as strict on grammar, punctuation, and following the "rules" with journals and blogs because they're most commonly written in our own voice.

Send me some of your favorite funny blog entries - from your own journal/blog - or nominate someone! I will give away two merit badges for the most purposeful funniest entry and the most miserable funniest entry!

Below, I will nominate a few of my own favorites. If you agree, then let me know! I always appreciate any feedback!
