Letter from the editor

Honoring the top twenty comedy movies of all time

Giving us our inspiration as writers and constantly pushing the envelope, we take these scenarios and characters with us, long after the movie has finished playing.

We love to use funny items from movies and build on them and use these ideas to create our own unique characters and morph them into our own writing style.

Generally in comedy there is a protagonist and an antagonist who are locked horns to try and defeat each other no matter what. We see this in every day comedy including so many of the great comedy movies that we have the utmost loathing, respect and affection for.

Have you ever heard someone recite a line from a movie and straight away you gel to what they are saying and have a chuckle on the sidelines or laugh out loud like a raging lunatic? I have plenty of times.

After watching and collecting comedy movies from all decades I like to think of myself as somewhat 'in the know' about the best comedy movies ever made. Therefore with all my worldly knowledge; I will present you with my top twenty list of the greatest all time comedy movies ever made!

My top 20

1. Hear No Evil, See No Evil
2. Happy Gilmore
3. Uncle Buck
4. Ferris Buellers Day Off
5. The Blues Brothers
6. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
7. Police Academy
8. Ace Ventura
9. Dodgeball
10. Spies Like Us
11. Caddyshack
12. Beverley Hills Cop
13. The Santa Clause
14. Parenthood
15. Blades of Glory
16. Napolean Dynamite
17. The 40 year old Virgin
18. Spaceballs
19. Mallrats
20. National Lampoons Vacation

Keeping our ideas funny and fresh is probably the hardest part of writing good comedy because so much has already been done before... then again has it all been done before?

Let's take a look at new and exciting scripts that have come through in the past couple of years. Blades of Glory; based on two male figure skaters which made my top twenty list. The 40 Year Old Virgin; this story is based around a man who has not quite gone there yet and his every day life. There are plenty more around but these two are shining examples of fresh new funny ideas.

For anyone who has seen any or all of these movies, there is a product review section on the site where you are able to leave a review of movies, music, books etc by linking the Amazon.com identification number to your review.

I have a story that was a funny one. My friends should have had a camera there to film me. We were having a bbq at a park. There were about 40 of us. My friends convinced me to take my mountain bike, that I had only really rode on the paved roads. I should have known better.
They talked me into trying this really steep hill. I was hesitant to try but Dusty loaned me his helmet.
As I was going down a hill that was about 60 feet in height with close to a 60 degree drop, I forgot to keep my rear end off the bike seat. Most of the way down, I started to lose control as I was jostled around to a point where my head was most likely sideways.
Needless to say I was thrown from the bike. My friends said that as soon as they saw me get up they started laughing. I went back to the bbq with bruised up arms and legs. Also my right eye was black and bruised.
I sure was a sight. But after I got up and dusted myself off, I could laugh at myself with everyone else.
Don't you just love public humiliation Nate?

Thanks for the funny newsletter. Embarrassing moments in public happen to me a lot. In fact, we have been roller blading in PE at school and I spent the majority of the time falling. That's not so fun. But I'm sure I look hilarious.
Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing your funny moments with us *Laugh* I have a ton of rollerblade embarassments; including the time I thought I could manage a cartwheel in front of cute guy!

Well,This subject is straight up my alley. My mother died in 1998 of breast cancer. Before she died, she was laughing about something, when the dr. came in he told her she had about 30 minutes to live, well after the dr. left my brother went in and asked her how she was doing, she said "Well I was feeling alot better before that dr. came in. Oh yea,she told me to play the saddest music I can find at her funeral. She didn't want any people there to be strong. My mom told me she wanted "I Told You I Was Sick" written on her tombstone....
That is a great story but still kind of sad but I would love to read anything you have come up with by using this in a short story one day.

I love these comedy newsletters!

You said that people ask if you're ok and then laugh loudly when you fall over. When I do that or run into poles/walls people just laugh. My friends just roll their eyes and go back to doing what they were doing. It's common now.

I think having something in your teeth would be more humiliating.

Thanks for the laugh!

I am not sure what would be worse, but most of this list has happened to me in the past *Laugh*, thank for the feedback.
