Quote
"Welcome every morning with a smile.
Look on the new day as another special gift
from your Creator,
another golden opportunity to complete
what you were unable to finish yesterday.
Be a self-starter.
Let your first hour set the theme of success
and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day.
Today will never happen again.
Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all.
You were not born to fail."

*Question* Random Questions *Question*

*Note* Can I change my handle? Yes, you may change your handle as often as you like, but you may not change your username without a cost.

*Note* If I want to browse through a member's portfolio, how do I get there? All you need to do is click on their case; it will automatically take you to their port.

*Note* What's the difference between a bitem and an item format? The item format will come up with the title of the item only. The bitem format will show up with the item ID number, the title, description, and the author, along with an envelope to click on if you want to email that author. Example:

{item:844409} will look like this: "Invalid Item

{bitem:844409} will look like this:
 Invalid Item
This item number is not valid.
#844409 by Not Available.

*Note* What if I don't want anyone to read something I'm working on? When you create an item to store in your portfolio, scroll down till you see Access Restrictions. There are several options, including Keep Private, For My Eyes Only. If you pick this option, no one will be able to see your item except you.

*Note* How can I make my font a different color? A few examples are:

{c:blue} (insert text) {/c} This will get you blue.
{c:red} (insert text) {/c} This will get you red.

If you want to make it bold, add {b} before the text and {/b} after you no longer want bold text.

{c:blue}{b} (insert text) {/c}{/b}Now you have bold and blue.
{c:red}{b} (insert text) {/c}{/b} Now you have bold and red.
{c:khaki}{b} (insert text) {/c}{/b} Now you have bold and khaki.
{c:brown}{b} (insert text) {/c}{/b} Now you have bold and brown.

*Bullet* A full list of colors, along with information about other tags, can be found to the left of your screen under "Site Navigation". Clicking on Site Tools and then scroll down to WritingML Help. A chart will come up on your screen supplying you with a variety of choices.

For more answers to your questions, click on "Getting Started: Table of Contents and visit Frequently Asked Questions which can be found at the bottom of your screen and also listed at the top under F.A.Q./Support.

Excerpt: She pursed her lips as she tried to concentrate on the article that she was supposed to be reviewing and sighed in frustration when the words blurred before her tired gaze. She rubbed her wrist absentmindedly, feeling the strange ever-present weight that no doctor or psychiatrist could explain away. Most of the time, she barely felt it, but when she was tired like she now, she was incredibly cognizant of it.

Excerpt: The moon was high over us as the silhouette of the castle came to view on the hillside. I could feel my chest heaving from the weight that I had long ignored. I knew that Christian would be feeling the same way, but with the castle so close, it seemed we were unable to stop now.

Excerpt: He would sit there at the bus stop, silently, day in - day out. His bent head and still body displaying a sense of withdrawal from all activity surrounding him. Even if someone were to speak to him he would not respond, even look, or seem to care. He would just sit there in his own little world and perhaps dream of a time when things were different.

Excerpt:
I sleep and in my head I see,
All of the things I want to be,
All of the good and all the bad,
The life I’ve lived, the love I’ve had.

Excerpt: The music chimed in the wind as I began to dance. My nightgown was blowing behind me as I danced for the moon. I was leaping and twirling over the even shore of the lake. The lake glistened and danced as I did for the whim of the moon and the Goddess.

PK is an amusing short story recounting two women's holiday adventure.
by Tadpole1

Excerpt: Last summer, when Liz and I were on vacation in the Bahamas, we met a man in the market. Everyone was staring at him even though they tried to do it discretely. He was middle-aged and suntan. Dark curls squiggled from underneath his brimmed, white hat. His light, cotton suit was the same color as his hat, but his clothes were not what made him remarkable. What made him remarkable was his nose. He had the biggest nose I had ever seen. It was so large that it was caricatural.

FEEDBACK

jbenolsen
Oh...you get a reviewing merit badge for reviewing things? Publicly? Well that makes sense, I guess. I was wondering about that when I saw someone with 18 such merit badges. I thought people just gave those out when someone gave them an amazing review. Thanks to this newsletter, I now know the answer to both that and other questions I've been having. Thanks, Cubby, Master of Emoticons.

Jared.

~ *Laugh* Do you really think I use that many emoticons??? *Bigsmile* I just can't help showing my feelings I guess, lol! Thanks so much for your great feedback! Much appreciated. *Smile*

Thank you Cubby for talking about recognition through awarding merit badges and ribbons; and the importance of thanking the member who awards that person, it is so very important.

~ You are welcome, dear Laurencia. *Smile* And I agree so very much with you about how important it is to say thank you. *Bigsmile*

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
This is a memoir of a girl who grows up with intelligent parents that cannot handle responsibility. Continously moving, the kids sleep in boxes, get stars for Christmas, and keep waiting for their father to build the glass castle he's drawn up plans for. In this unusual story, the children learn how to take care of themselves while their mother paints pictures, their father steals money from their piggy bank, and the children eat only popcorn for days. Read it and you'll never forget it. Highly recommended. *Smile*
