About This Newsletter

What is a mystery? It's like a puzzle. A reader has to discover the secret or riddle in order to solve it and find out who the criminal or enemy is. Clues are imperative, but should be puzzling. Make a reader have to think by using a strong plot that paints a picture in the reader's mind, yet leaves them guessing.*Smile*

*Star* What is your idea of a good mystery? Is it a cozy mystery with less action, a hard-boiled detective mystery, an amateur detective mystery, or one not mentioned here?

Letter from the editor

*Star* In this weeks newsletter, let's talk about things that can inspire a writer's Muse when beginning to write a mystery. One of the best are television shows like The Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, The FBI Files, and CSI series. These reality shows reveal how real mysteries are solved by some of the best detectives with sometime average to very little clues. They also give a watcher an idea of why the details leading up to the puzzle is important, and just how difficult the task is.

Another thing that makes for a story of realism is a writer doing extensive research on the type of mystery being written. Look for specifics like the history of the time frame you will be using for the tale down to the details of what the characters involved wore in that era, the housing resided in, the place the puzzle takes place, and so forth. These things draw in avid mystery readers.

The writing of the story should have a beginning that instantly captures a readers attention and holds it until the finale.

**If you have a good mystery you would like read, post it here or email me. I just love a good mystery! *Delight* **
