Bring Some Fun to Your Portfolio!

Need some entertainment? Try a word search!

There are more than a thousand word searches on our site, created by members just like you. You don't need a pencil to solve these, just drag your mouse over the word and it is circled for you. It's something fun to do if you're bored or just need a little time out while working on a difficult plot.

One advantage to creating word searches is bringing new members into your portfolio. The word search item has a Body area that appears right above the puzzle. What can you do with that area? If you want members to get to know you, add a picture and have the search words be about you. Or if you're interested in promoting a story, put a link at the top and a few words about your story. Then have the search words include characters or settings from the story.

Holidays! Create a fun holiday word search and promote a contest or activity. A fun group activity could be a speed competition on solving a word search, your solve time is listed when you finish the puzzle. Or the words could be clues for a scavenger hunt.

Think of popular subjects on the internet right now and create a puzzle for one of those. Google searches could find your keywords and potentially bring in new members on your referral. What about a popular band or hot spot in your hometown? If you already have a word search created, make sure you have your keywords included and think about sprucing up your Body with text ML and images.

Next time, instead of saying "I'm bored." try a word search!

Ask & Answer

This month's question: What do you like to do on WDC when you're bored?

Last month's question: Do you have any suggestions on attracting members to your contest/activity?

Aennaytte: Free & Wild in GoT : A suggestion to attract members, yes, I have one. Read other people's existing stories of that genre, send a review and make sure to let them know about your contest in that genre. Do you already know somebody who loves to write for a certain genre and have a contest? Send an email with a link to the contest/activity. I've gotten some good results doing that. Besides using all the tools WDC and groups offer a bit of self-promotion never hurts and nobody is ever offended.

Rogue♥Sherri : A contest or activity is really no different than a short story or novel. If you want people to take notice then bait your hook appropriately. When writing an author needs to attract the reader's attention quickly and securely and so should contests and activities. Try adding a small teaser hook to your sig like "Do you want 10,000 gp's? If so, click here" Use your top prize to garner interest. The idea is to tease. Give a little to get them wanting more.
