Winging It
to improvise with little preparation
We've all done it - either procrastinate until the last minute, forget about a deadline, or come across something great at the last second. Should we then give up and pass the opportunity? Why not rise to the challenge of winging it! 
First, if you're doing this with a contest, make sure you take the time to read over the rules carefully. You wouldn't want to be disqualified after your hard work!
The term, "winging it" can have a negative connotation, but in the case of entering a contest or activity just before the deadline doesn't have to be a negative thing! Here are some tips for winging it:
 Write something new! Who says good writing can't come quickly? Take a look at "The Writer's Cramp" ! This contest gives entrants only 24 hours to come up with an entry! Time and again, entrants come through with quality writing, so it's proof it can be done!
Write as fast as you can! Take the first idea that comes to mind and just start writing. Try keeping an idea notebook, with just a list of ideas that come to you throughout the day. Then when you get some free time, when you just feel like writing, or when you happen upon a contest that's ending soon, just start writing!
Brainstorm. Either by yourself or with a group, try throwing out some ideas and let them develop. You never know where you might end up!
Don't have time to write a new item?
Polish up an older item. If a contest doesn't require a newly written item, take a look in your port to see if you have anything compatible with the contest's requirements. Try using the Search bar above your list of items after clicking on "My Portfolio." Once you find one that fits, take a read through it and polish it up a bit!
The benefits of entering contests (and taking part in WDC activities) are numerous. For instance, any writing can improve your skill, and it also gives you a chance to interact with this great writing community. There are, obviously, many more benefits. So find a contest or activity today, and if it happens to be one that's ending rather soon, have no fear - wing it!
