Letter from the editor

Monday was February 14th. If you're reading this newsletter, chances are you celebrated that day as Valentine's Day.

This year, for the first time since 2006, I am Valentine-less. I am single as can be. Oh, but there's a holiday for us singulars, too! It's called Single Awareness Day, a day when we can get together and proudly celebrate that we are single. It's an excuse not to be sad on the national day of love. . .

Has anyone ever considered that Single Awareness Day's acronym is SAD? It's like they expect us to be depressed even on a made-up holiday. And so, a holiday that sounds like it empowers single people just ends up spreading a stereotype. "All single people are SAD."

The one thing that Single Awareness Day has going for it is that there's no nauseating pink hearts or greeting cards for it in the stores. It's a largely non-commercial made-up holiday, which is more than I can say for Valentine's Day.

If I sound disgruntled, it's because I am. For most of my life, I went without having much opinion of Valentine's Day. It was just the day in school where everyone exchanged glossy valentines the size of baseball cards. Things changed when I got a long-term boyfriend, of course. I celebrated Valentine's Day because I was expected to, because what kind of girl(friend) would I be if I didn't?

Now, I just can't help but wonder-- shouldn't we be doing little things for those we love every day? I'd rather have small gestures of love on a regular basis than one giant chocolate-covered Valentine's Day surprise.

Or maybe I'm just "sad."

Laughter in the bedroom? I couldn't agree more! Let's face it, things don't always go perfectly in there. In my opinion, if you can't laugh with your partner, then you're definitely not comfortable enough to be sharing that experience with them in the first place. There are several things about my partner that make me laugh. It's hard to pick out just one well let me see the one i like that he does the most is like lets say he is explaing something that he has done and i give him a look like i don't believe him he would say it's the darn truth "What the Problem is?" and i would bust out laughing it's how he raises his eyebrows and looks at me smiling his devilish smile.
